PIFF prefers online entries submitted via Withoutabox.com, which provides cost-saving, paperless submission to film festivals around the world. Films may be submitted in the following categories:
- Shorts (under 40 min.)
- Juried Student Shorts (under 40 min. must provide valid student id)
- Documentary Feature (over 50 min.)
- Narrative Feature (over 50 min.)
- Animated Feature (over 50 min.)
All screened films are eligible for the HBO Audience Awards
